King Kalakaua Park in downtown Hilo has a koi pond and wonderful water lilies. A look back at last year’s loti gives me new inspiration and brings me back to Hilo shorelines.

Still enjoying his lotus garden

Right between the Post Office and the East Hawaii Center, this royal pond is a refreshing spot for bees, ducks, and spirits of the past.

Reflections of beauty in the midday sun..

Now it’s a short walk down to the Ocean

Let’s wander  from the King’s watergarden to the open sea

for the sport of kings:  SURFING!

Let’s take a walk downtown for some fine green moss..  at the edge of the Pu’ueo Bridge in Hilo

The forest rock will have to wait!

(not too long, the good lord willin’ & the creek don’t rise..)

In the meantime here we are in the middle of town. 

And this is the shoreline for sure..

Yes this is downtown Hilo!

At the mouth of the Wailuku River

Where the Singing Bridge beckons

and the little lighthouse calls…

stands out

out of the blue

or beyond the blue

   Speaking of canoes..  these are all from Bayfront.. Big Island masterwork!                There’s the Singing Bridge

& a white canoe…

  And the dawn of this new day

     From the old Iron Works warehouse by the small boat harbor to the famous dragon bridges, Wailoa River State Park keeps the center of Hilo green and natural.  

Walk with me, sail with me…
  These waters will help you find peace..

These waters will calm your soul..

When you are weary sail with me 

in your imagination 

  At times

we come here for solitude,

at other times we gather our families on these shores.

We walk, we paddle, WE SAIL,

We sing..

Okay, so the lighthouses aren’t in Hilo, & they aren’t ‘real’..  It’s the color combo I’m looking for.  A few more random entries..

Late February

brings us visions of dreams & changing realities

& more pictures than i know what to do with

(no time to sort them out, tho that’s all i’ve been doing lately)

(posting here, posting there, forgetting my first loves)

Walking, walking, walking the shorelines…

          And another walk, down the coast a few miles…    

         Only a beginning but it’s going out anyway.

For a change let’s take a journey down the coast to Kapoho & Kalapana, starting with a stop at

Makenzie State Park (where sister Ann enjoys the view)..   

  Talk about a twisted trunk!  This one has weathered the wind & waves..  They say Makenzie is on the edge of the known universe..  

No great river of flowing lava right now, but here is some steam rising from the hillside beyond what was once the village of Kalapana..      

Here’s the black sand beach known as Kehena..       

Yes, we’re jumping around a little.. back to Kapoho for a look at the tide pools..

These Hilo shorelines are inspiring a new stream, a brook  ”of unbounded returns” ..              This is the bridge to tomorrow

   and the eye of the universe…
